Miami web design and Web hosting

Miami Web Design

The easiest way to create an effective, standard compliant, high search ranking website is to use a reliable web design company. A company is able to guide you through all the many options to find the right web design for your website. But if you are ready to try web design on your own there are a number of elements you should consider before you being.

The whole purpose of good design is to guide people towards the information or product on your website. Every well designed website has a website plan, an overall guiding concept which helps designers to make design decisions. Your design plan should outline the main aim of your website and be used to direct all further decisions. If features of your website design is not supporting your website plan, not helping to achieve your main concept then you may need to rethink.

There are 4 basic elements you should think about while creating your plan. These are briefly outlined below.

Domain name: the easier to remember the domain name the better and you do not want to lose customers or reader because they forgot your address. Pick something easy to remember and spell. Do not use something which people will get confused, for example avoid using 2 as the short form of to. Make your domain memorable and unique. Try to choose a domain name that is full of keywords that are related to your website. If your website sells shoes try to get a domain with the word shoes in it.

Audience: You are not trying to attract everyone to your website, you are trying to attract people who are interested in what YOU do. Do some research on how your audience might find your website. If you were a customer how would you search? Would you search on Google? Which other sites might you use, social forums like Facebook, Twitter or maybe a specialized forum like lonely planet? Check out related organizations in your city to see if you can put a link on their websites?

Templates: Website templates are pre-designed layouts, you just need to add your own personal content and you're ready. You customize website templates any way you like... Right? It's that easy? Do you understand frames, divs, and tables? These are common problems with free website templates. If you do not know how to fix and manipulate them it can lead to issues when you want to change your website in the future. Also not all templates match every browser. Users who are not using the browser the template was designed on will see website differently than the way you intended.

Layout Features: If the main aim of your website is to inform users of a service or product you do not want to distract from your content. Good layout = easily accessible content. Your banner or website header should not be too big, it should not be over powering but informative. Avoid using background images as they are distracting from text. Graphic are important but make sure they are not too big or the website will take too long to upload.

Web Design

Being a web designer can mean you have multiple projects to work on at the same time. You've got files cluttered everywhere, loads of designs opened in different applications and 5 clients talking to you at once about their problems or needs for a project. Here's how to get yourself organised and make your business work in an efficient way.

Sort Yourself Out

First of all, get files organised if you don't have already, it not only slows your system down but your way of approaching tasks as well. Have a separate folder for each project and have subfolders too so you know where everything is and you can easily get to what you're looking for whether it's a logo, PHP file or something else.

Secondly, and this is quite important, managed your time effectively! What I do sometimes is have 25 minute shots at particular things I need to get done, have a 5 minute break and have another 25 minute shot at something focusing one that one task only. If you work using an hourly rate, use a good timing program that helps you manage every second and every minute which have notes attached explaining what should have been done.

Distractions

I don't know how many designers will agree with me on this, but I think it can be very easy for someone to get distracted from what they're doing. I'm not going to lie I do myself, so clear your mind and take note of what distracts you from your work. Deactivate your Facebook if you use that because I know people who go onto the website, scroll down to the bottom of the news and two minutes later they're doing the same thing again! Think about it, it's like jail; all you do is write on walls, do nothing and get poked by people you don't know am I not right? Which is why I don't bother using the site unless I'm updating my business Pages.

What else do you get distracted by, we all love music don't we? Well I usually get distracted by listening to songs whereas some people don't. I don't know if you've heard of something called binaural beats, but this is something I've come across quite a while ago and I now use them on a regular base. I do get tempted to listen to my personal favourites but binaural beats is a different issue. These are specially produced sounds of certain frequencies on the left and right speakers which alter your mind state in so many different ways and this why it's convenient to use headphones when listening to them otherwise they don't usually work. Most of them help calm you down and clear your mind and there are binaural beats for just about everything including creativity, focus, energy, sleep, the list goes on and they really do work! Something you should definitely do some research on.

One Problem at a Time

If you're not a woman, don't bother multi-tasking, because as a man I can genuinely say it does not work for me, there's been times where I've had to work on 5 different projects at the same time with all the clients asking me on the updates, it's crazy and it just makes things harder. Prioritise what needs to be done so you can get one thing done at a time. Don't lie to your clients, work on one task first for a certain period of time, update that client and do some work on the next one. Usually it's not good having to do more than around 2 projects at the same time because things can get really complicated, which is why I prefer working on one large project rather than a good couple of smaller ones. I can put more effort and dedication into one then having to switch projects every couple of hours.

Just like I am doing now, I have to write this article and focus on this only without being distracted, I will then set some time to have a break, check my emails and updating my Twitter etc... Then I will move onto my next task, and it can be very easy to forget what I'm trying to explain as well so it takes a little time to get used to it then you'll be working more efficiently without even realising. I'm always looking at new ways to improve the way I work, the quality of work and the tools that help me work. Don't over-complicate situations, take a look at how you're running you're business at the moment, see what you can do to make everything more efficient and work better. Better work means a bigger cash flow and you should be taking every step to take your services to the next level.

Let's face it, social media and social networking sites are one of the hugest things to hit the online world in recent years. It's possible to spend hours and hours a day on YouTube - you may not get any work done on your other tasks and chores - but you're guaranteed to never get bored! Facebook just keeps expanding too - at the moment the site has a whopping 500+ million users. With all this buzzing social media activity, it can be difficult for a standard, simple website to have any impact at all - but rather than hanging your head in despair, it's time instead to take a closer look at what two of the most infectious social media sharing and networking sites can teach us about web design for regular websites.

To begin with, big part of Facebook's success is due to its web design. What's the first thing you notice about the Facebook site? It includes only two colours, a calming blue and white. Aside from this simple and clean colour scheme, some other elements of Facebook's web design are also immediately striking. The design of the site's navigation is very user-friendly, and easy to operate and comprehend. Facebook also features an easily locatable help section, as well as a search box that will display comprehensive results which can even be refined further according to more specific criteria. Web design features such as these make Facebook the enjoyable website it is because they allow trouble-free access of the site's functionalities by almost anyone of any age and level of computer literacy. Other popular features of Facebook's website design, such as the "like" application, encourage the easy sharing of information. Facebook also supports the sharing of video and polls which make the site an entertaining, interactive and informative as well as a social experience.

YouTube is a similarly addictive social media sharing site that has succeeded where other similar sites have failed due to its user-friendly website design. Some of the reasons for YouTube's success, aside from its entertaining content, are the functionality and accessibility of its web design that allows for the sharing of personal video clips, as well as the display of quality copyrighted video materials. One of the most useful things that YouTube can teach us about web design is that fun, interactive and search engine friendly content will always give you an edge over your competitors. All elements of your website design, including written content, graphics, blogs and videos, need to be entertaining as well as informative. Web surfers are attracted to audio-visual content, as are search engines, so including videos in your web design is a good idea for any online marketing strategy.

All of the elements of Facebook's website design can also be adapted to commercial web design to provide great advantages in user-satisfaction and online marketing strategies. Selecting a simple set of two or three colours and sticking only to them across the site is definitely the way to go for successful web design, as is providing a search box that allows visitors to easily navigate the website content and find the most relevant information to them. If you want your website to be as attractive as Facebook and as popular as YouTube, you should also consider favouring a web design that prioritises interaction. Interaction between site visitors and the website content can be encouraged by adding plugins for the sharing of content, as well as including entertaining elements such as videos, games, quizzes and competitions.

Web Design

If you didn't know, a favicon is that little icon that appears both in your bookmarks in your web browser, your tabs in your web browser, and next to your navigation bar for whichever website you are on.

Adding a favicon to your website is a smart thing to do for a number of reasons. For one thing, adding a customized favicon significantly improves upon the level of professionalism for your website and company which people associate with it. It's another part of your branding which you should definitely not neglect.

Secondly, using a favicon on your website also separates your website from everyone else's. Not only does it help to differentiate your site from other bookmarks which someone might make within their web browser, it also puts you a leg up upon any website without an icon. Finally, it's also extremely simple to add a favicon to your website, so there's no reason to not do it.

Now that I've outlined what exactly a favicon is and why it is important to have one on your website, let's talk about how to add a favicon.

First off, you have to design your icon. Your favicon should be 16 pixels by 16 pixels in height and width. You can create an icon using your graphic designer of choice. I personally prefer Adobe Illustrator but I know a lot of people like to use Photoshop.

You can even get by using Paint which is a free program which comes with Windows. If you have an existing graphic or logo for your company, you might think about shrinking that or taking a piece of it in particular and shrinking that and making that your icon if you don't feel like creating one from scratch. If nothing else you might just take the initials of your company and write them in a flashy font.

Once your icon has been created, you should save it as a .ICO file. If you are having trouble with this, you can save it as a JPEG, GIF, or PNG file and then convert it with one click using a free service which I cannot link to here but will link to a mention of it at the end of this article. This service will churn out the exact file which you need for your website.

Now that we've designed our icon and rendered it down to an icon file, all that's left to do is publish it on our website. After we have uploaded this file using either an FTP program or your WordPress theme if your theme has a custom area for uploading your icon file, the changes will take place immediately and you'll see your icon in your browser.

Miami web design - a viable web presence

Miami Web Design

Building a site with a website creator is fun and easy to do. It takes very little time and effort to build a website in this manner. However, there are some pitfalls that are easy to fall into when you use a website creator. This is because they are so easy to use it can be difficult to remember that your site needs to be professional and unique, as well as easy to navigate. Here are the top five website creator mistakes that you should avoid at all costs.

1. Not making the site unique. A website builder offers hundreds of templates for you to choose from. Unfortunately, these same templates are being used by thousands of people every day. In order to keep your site professional and unique, you need to change the template slightly. Choose a different color scheme. If possible, make a unique color scheme by choosing individual colors for your font and backgrounds. This way your site is somewhat unique from the thousands of others using the templates.

2. Not using keyword rich titles for your pages. Some site builders will automatically name a page "Page 2" or something similar. Other website creators name the page after the heading you put in the title. The name or title of the page in the navigational tools and buttons should be keyword rich and descriptive. This is necessary both for your site to be professional as well as for your site to be found in search engines.

3. Not changing graphics. You might choose a template that you like because the graphics match your business or website goals. However, this is detrimental to the professionalism of your site because thousands of other people will have the same graphic. Instead, change the graphics in the template to original graphics that you create yourself or purchase from the internet. This way your site is professional and unique. Title the graphics with keywords to further optimize your site for search engines.

4. Not giving enough information. It is easy to build a website with a website creator in a matter of minutes, but you won't be providing much information in the process. Information is important to keep your visitors long enough to buy something from your site. Keyword rich content is also important for getting higher placement in the search engines.

5. Not keeping it simple. Too many graphics, colors in the fonts, hard to read font styles, and similar design mistakes are not as easy to make when you use a site builder, but they still crop up. You want your site to look cool, but you also want to make sure that the design doesn't take away from the goal of the website. If something is too flashy, many visitors will not stick around long enough to buy something.

Web Design

Knowing what you need to build a website is the first step in being able to work from home on your computer.

Even though there are already-built sites available online, learning how to build a website yourself gives you an advantage over other website owners because once you have this knowledge, no one can take it away from you. You will be able to design new sites any time you want and expand your business ventures at will.

Assuming you already have a computer with Internet connection, here are the 3 basic elements you need to build a website:

1. A Domain Name

The domain name is the name of your website. For example, "http://www.my-domain-name.com".

You will need to buy your domain name from a domain registration company where you pay an annual fee for the right to use that name. Fortunately, this is very inexpensive --average cost -/year.

This does not get you a website, just the name. The name should be relevant to the product/s you will be selling or promoting -- and easy to remember.

There are oodles of companies that register domain names. Doing a Google search of 'domain names' will yield plenty of reputable choices.

2. A Web Hosting Company

Basically, a web hosting company connects your website to the World Wide Web.

Every website needs a web host.

More often than not, when you purchase your domain name, your domain registrar you will also offer you the option of purchasing hosting with them. You do NOT have to do this, but, for the beginner, it often makes things easier.

For a good hosting company, don't expect to pay much more than -/month, although hosting packages do vary in cost. You can always do a Google search for 'hosting companies' if you want to shop around for rates.

Creating a hosting account is very easy. You can literally have your own hosting package within minutes.

Once you have a domain name and web hosting set up, you are ready to create your own website. So now you will need:

3. A Web Editor

In order to design and create a web page on your computer at home, you will need to use what is known as a web editor.

A web editor is the software that converts the text and content --that you will write on your computer-- into 'computer language' for your web hosting company to understand.

With a web editor you will be able to:

* Create multiple web pages
* Use different fonts and colors
* Add images and tables
* Resize pages to make them look more professional
* Publish your pages so they show up on the Internet
* Create links to other pages within your site and to other websites

You can pay a lot of money for a web editor, but this is NOT necessary. There are plenty of perfectly good web editors available for free.

You now know the 3 basic components of what you need to build a website.

The foundation of any successful online business is knowing how to create, design, and publish a website.

Just by reading this article you are already ahead of most people who say they want to work on their computer from home. 90% will never even bother to investigate what the 3 fundamentals of building a website are, much less use that information to start a web based business.

It is important to remember, however, that in order to build a website, you actually have to DO it. Creating a website is a hands-on experience.

Miami web design - dynamic collaboration

Web Design

In this competitive world, marketing strategies drive profit towards a business. In order to bring more and more customers for your products or services, you should first manage to attract them. This act of grabbing the attention of customers is called as marketing. It is a vast field with diversified ideas and techniques that help businesses grow and prosper.

In earlier times, marketing was given less importance, but growth in the business world has increased its importance tremendously as it has become important for a brand to gain recognition in the industry. Marketing helps in gaining the recognition and reaching the customers with ease. One can find thousands of brands for a single product in the industry; thus, it is necessary to promote your brand in such an effective manner that it stands out from its competitors. This will help in gaining the attention of the target customers and in winning their trust.

Considering the importance of marketing, one should use all the marketing tools with extreme intelligence. Using a tool is not a big deal but gaining benefit out of it, is interesting to watch. Therefore, one should thoroughly analyze a tool before using it. Brochure design is one of the fundamental tools used for marketing of a product or a service. The way a tool is used makes the whole difference. Almost every organization uses brochure design to promote its products but only few of them get the desired results. So, what makes the whole difference? There must be something that some organizations miss out in their brochure design.

Have you ever thought that what is the most important attribute of a brochure design? It is the quality of a brochure design that matters the most. Quality doesn't only refer to the standard of paper but it is linked with every single feature of a brochure. Starting from the colors of the brochure till its content, all should be unique and high in quality. High quality of your marketing tools helps you in gaining trust of your target customers. This increases the credibility of your organization or brand.

Good quality paper is essential for a sound brochure design. If a brochure design has sound colors, images, graphics and content but its paper is of low quality then all its impact will be lost. This brochure design will fail to create a sound image of the organization in front of its target customers. Thus, it is a foremost step to choose a good quality paper for a brochure in order to create a professional corporate image of your organization.

Images also play a pivotal role in grabbing the attention of the target customers. There quality is measured through their relevance to the nature of a business. Content is responsible for convincing the customers. The better you are able to demonstrate the benefits of your products; the greater is the quality of your content. Starting from tagline, slogans or captions till in depth feature analysis of the product; content must be short, comprehensive and compelling.

Photoshop's Pen Tool is one of the best creative tools in their arsenal. But most designers avoid using it as they simply do not understand the concept of what it can do. I use the Pen Tool for many different purposes, and in this tutorial I will be showing you a few ways to use it to your advantage.

Basics
The basic mechanics of the Pen Tool is simply that you create two points (called anchor points), and Photoshop will draw a Path between them. The Path can then be used for drawing, or, if the Path is a loop (a series of anchors that start at end at the same point) it can be used to create entire shapes.

Anchor Point: The anchor points are what decides where each Path begins and ends. Think of them of a dot-to-dot picture you used to do when you were a child. To create a Path you must lay down anchor points at various positions, connecting them together in turn.

Path: The Path is the line between the two anchor points that draws out the shape or line you are trying to create. The Paths shape depends on the position of its two anchor points and the position of its handle.

Handle: The handle is used to bend Paths. Photoshop will always draw a perfectly straight Path between two anchor points, so if you wish to bend the Path you must move its handle accordingly. Think of it like a lever. The further away and more of an angle you put on the handle the more it effects the bend of the Path.

If you hold down the mouse on the Pen Tool we have a variety of Sub Tools.

The Pen Tool is the really the only selection I ever make off this selection. If you are careful when drawing your Paths and take your time you probably wont need the other ones.

The Freeform Pen Tool simply acts like the Lasso Tool and creates a Path wherever the Mouse Pointer goes.

As you will see this creates messy inaccurate Paths, and for as long as I have been using Photoshop I have never used this Tool.

The Add Anchor Point Tool does exactly what it says on the tin. You can use it to add extra Anchor Points along any Path you have drawn.

The Subtract Anchor Point Tool simply deletes any Anchor Point you click on.

The Convert Point Tool simply adds handles to existing Anchor Points by clicking and dragging.

Using Paths To Create Lines

Draw a simple Path, such as a letter S. You would simple make an anchor point to start with. Then place a second anchor point, but on doing so hold the mouse button down and drag the bend into it. Then, place the third anchor point and drag in the opposite direction.

This is simply a Path. It is not something that will be visual on our final image. To make it into something solid we must Stroke the Path. To do this we must first choose something to stroke it with. Choose the Brush Tool and set your brush to a 5px Hard Brush and set the color to Red.

Next, choose the Pen Tool again, Ctrl-Click/Right-Click the image and choose Stroke Path.

In the Stroke Path Window you will see two options. A drop down box for the tool you wish to use on the selected Path, and the Simulate Pressure Check Box. The Simulate Pressure option will add tapers to the beginning and end of your Path. By choosing Brush from the drop down menu you are telling Photoshop to fill in the Path with the 5px Hard Brush we just set. Obviously if you are using another tool other than the brush, you would simply set the options for that particular tool prior to running the Stroke Path function.

Creating Shapes Using The Pen Tool

To create a shape we must draw out some Anchor Points like we did before, only this time we must finish on the same point we started with.

Now we have our shape we must make it a Selection, for if we were to try and fill this now we would simply fill the entire background. Choose Window > Paths and choose the Load Path As A Selection button.

This will convert the Path into a Selection. You will see this by the visibility of the so called "walking ants".

Now this is a selection you can fill it with a color or gradient and can then start to apply Layer Styles as it is now a solid object in our document and no longer merely a Path or selection.

Drawing Complex Shapes

In order to draw complex shapes it is important to learn how to edit the handles of your Paths. If we draw a curve Photoshop automatically adds a handle to the second Anchor Point so that the curve can be continued smoothly into the third point. However sometimes we do not want to continue the curve. To edit the handles we hold down the Alt Key and either reposition the handle, or click the Anchor Point to remove it completely.

1. This shows the route the Path will take between the three points if we simply do nothing to the handle.
2. This shows the route when we hold down Alt and move the handle.
3. This shows the route when we hold down Alt and click the middle Anchor Point to remove the handle.

This allows us to draw much more complex shapes.

Using The Pen Tool To Add / To Subtract From A Selection

When doing complex selections we can use the Pen Tool to accurately tweak the edges.

With the Pen Tool selected draw your Path over the remaining leg. Choose Window > Paths.

Now when we choose the Load Path As A Selection button we hold down the Alt Key first to bring up the Make Selection Options.

Make sure you have the Add to Selection Box selected and click OK. This will convert the Path and add it onto our selection.

To subtract from selection we do everything exactly the same but obviously we check Subtract from Selection instead of Add.

Now you have the knowledge, embrace the Pen Tool. Make cleaner selections, and therefor cleaner work.

When you decide to design your website or get it designed by a professional web designer, it is important to consider the factors including navigation, quality of content and the aesthetics of the website. While the web designer has to take care of all these factors, the graphic design for the website should be given equal importance. Graphic images are the first thing a visitor notices on a website and it is because of the attractive graphic images that the reader is enticed to read the text.

A website designer, who may also be a graphic designer, has to blend the graphics in his web design to create an attractive websites that can hold the interest of visitors and compel them to revisit the websites. In the web design, the web page layouts, site plan and content are directly related to the graphic design created for the websites. The graphics have to be as good as other aspects of web design.

Let us see how the graphic design is linked with various factors of the web design-

Home Page- This is the most important web page of the site. It can make or break the website and so the graphic design on this page should be most attractive and effective. If the Home page is not attractive enough, the bounce rate would increase and the whole purpose of the website would fail. So it is important to have graphics that are attractive as well as informative enough to hold the visitors' attention. Using colours and images that blend with the core message of the website is best way to make the website most effective.

Content- It is the content which talks about your company, products, services and work but reading long content can sometimes be boring. In order to make it interesting, the web design should be such that the readers are compelled to read the content. With the help of attractive graphic images, you can engage the customers and direct them towards the related content.

Brand Reputation- A good graphic design incorporated into the web design can lead to improved reputation of the company and its brand. The graphics such as logos lead to creation of brand identity and reputation building and so they should be designed carefully.

If the graphic design is blended with all these aspects of web design, the website owner can enjoy the following benefits-

A) Added visual appeal of the website: Colours and images are more attractive than texts and so the visuals are an important aspect of a website. It appeals to the aesthetic sense of the viewers and helps them to connect with the site.

B) User-friendly website: The aspect of usability is supported with the help of good graphic design. Besides other tools, graphic images can also make the website user-friendly.

C) Makes the site look more professional: Many times, despite a good web design and informative content a website fails to achieve the desired results. This is possible in the absence of a good graphic design. With effective graphics, the website can add a touch of professionalism.

Graphic images can be of different types including logos, graphic text headings, background images, photos, bullet points, image maps, divider lines and navigation buttons. The key is to make the graphics effective enough to induce the visitors to visit the website and revisit it.

Web Design

It is very important that you hire the best website design company in order to obtain the best services possible. Not all website design companies are easily able to provide you with what you need, and you need to spend some time looking around at the different companies in your area in order to find the one that will meet your needs the best.

The first thing you need to establish is the purpose of your website, and you need to come up with the purpose before you ever go out to hire a web designer company in your area. Does your website need to inform, educate, promote, or sell? Do you want to sell many items, or just one? Do you want to promote many things, or are you just going to provide simple information on your services? Whatever the purpose of creating a website, it is important that the owner of the site have that purpose well-established in his mind in order to truly be able to communicate that purpose to the chosen web design company.

You can go with freelance web designers, or you can use a website design company. Each has their benefits:
- Freelancers are often cheaper than a web design company
- Companies usually provide better services than freelancers, and can be more reliable in the long-run.

Whichever you decide to go with, the next step is to take a look at their portfolio. All website design companies should have a portfolio of some of the website designs they have created, and you can look through those designs to get ideas for your own website design.

Do research on the website design company you are considering hiring. Feedback from others will help you to get an idea of how good they are. You need a company that has a experts in the following areas:

• Copywriters, the people who write the text that will go on your website

• Graphic designers, those who will handle your sites' visual aspect

• Web programmers, those who handle the administrative aspect of the website

• SEO experts, the people who ensure that your website is ranked highly on search engines (if you are opting for this service with your site design)

If you can find a couple of website design companies that have passed your selection criteria, then the only left to help you decide which to speak to them and work out what packages they offer, and at what cost. You need to make sure your website design is optimized for mobile devices such as mobile phones, so don't choose on price alone, as you need to future-proof your website as much as possible.

Creating a quality website is an important part of marketing any business, and it is important that you, as the business owner, take all of these criteria into consideration when looking for the best website design company to hire.

There are two sources of the traffic to any website; one is through the search engines and the other is without any use of search engines. Studies have revealed that the search engines account for the generation of 80% of the traffic to the websites. If the website is ranked high on the website, it is going to receive a lot of traffic, conversely poor ranking could adversely affect the traffic and the number of clicks on that website could be comparatively very less.

The ranking of any Website URL on the search engine list depends on the algorithm. Usually the search engines do not declare the details of the algorithms and the factors that affect the ranking. Most of the factors that affect the listing are now known because of the trial and error method used by the designers.

Among all the factors affecting the listing, the ability of the spider of the search engine to easily maneuver or traverse through the website is a prime consideration.

The spiders of the search engine consider the text on the web page but never consider the Java Script. Now if a designer has used a lot of Java Script to enhance the looks of the website, it may hardly have the desired effect on the search engine.

An alt tag that describes the image and is readable by the spider should accompany the image, because the writing in the images cannot be read by the spiders. If possible key words should be inserted in the alt tag.

If you want the spider of the search engine to rank the website higher then you need to make its work easy and this is possible by using valid CSS and XHTML codes. If the code is valid it ensures that the website is going to get uniform response from various browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari and Netscape. If the designer wants the best of results then one should use products like Dreamweaver from Macromedia or even hand coding. Invalid coding is usually possible when the designer used word processors and programs that are not designed for designing the website.

Miami web design - Industry insights

Web Design

Images play a big part in advertising because they are a means of communication that is absorbed much faster by the eye and comprehended more quickly than text by all ages and demographics. The images featured on your website are therefore one of the most important elements of your web design in terms of building initial impressions of your company and sparking the interest of potential clients and customers. First impressions are always important and you never get a second chance at them, so the power of high quality photography in website design cannot be underestimated. If you think you can get by on free downloads, stock images and quick snaps from your own basic, single lens camera, here are some more reasons to think again:

* Although your happy snaps and holiday shots might have always turned out all right, it's a whole different ball game when it comes to photography for web design. Without expert training and a professional standard of photography equipment, your images are likely to have the wrong level of exposure and incorrect aspect ratio for use in website design. A specialist photographer will have had years of training in the techniques of lighting and composition that will help to present your business website in a stylish way.

* As well as ensuring that the appearance of your website design is an attractive and professional one, specialist photographic services can make your web design an exciting and interactive experience. New technologies provide the opportunity for offering 360-degree rotation of images and the animation of still image galleries, which means that your customers have the advantage of receiving a detailed view and experience of your products or business environment.

* A specialist photographer familiar with web design will immediately know the kinds of shots that work best online and will know where they should appear on the page in order to attract the attention of site visitors. Poor quality or simply irrelevant photographs won't do your website design any favours and risk misleading or distracting customers, causing frustration and, at the end of the day, reduced site visits and sales.

* Your web design is one of the key tools that can be used to present your company as a unique entity and one that stands apart from its competitors in professionalism. Photos can play an important role in this aspect of web page design and if you are drawing your images from stock image sites, it's likely that the same widely available images are already being used across a huge amount of sites, including those of your competitors.

Building a website these days has more to do with the tools you have on your site and your content than the look and feel of the site itself. These things determine how useful your site is to users and to your company, as well as where you get placed in the search engines. Here are the top four business web tools that you need on your website, why you need them, and how to use them.

1. Shopping Cart. Your website must have a shopping cart so that your customers can place orders and make payment. Even if you sell services instead of products you should have some method for your clients to pay you through your website. This can be as simple as a PayPal button or as complex as a detailed shopping cart and catalogue system. Whatever the case, this is perhaps the most important tool for your website. You can easily purchase shopping cart software for your website, or many web site builders offer a shopping cart built into business websites.

2. Social Networking. Any informative content available on your site should include a link to share the article on Facebook or Twitter. These sharing buttons are the best way to entice visitors to promote your website. You will be amazed at the number of hits you get from this one simple website tool. Getting the share button is easy, and it is sometimes included in website builders. If you have to find the button code on another website, you can simply copy and paste the code into the editor of your web builder and you're in business.

3. Google Analytics. This amazing website tool allows you to track what keyword searches lead to your visitors entering your website. It also shows you where your visitors are located and other demographics. You will know exactly who is visiting your site and how they got there. Using this tool is easy. Simply set up a Google analytics account and copy and paste the code onto your website pages. It will not show anything on your web page itself, but the code will be there for the web to read whenever someone visits your site. To see the data collected, just log back into your Analytics account.

4. Newsletter Sign Up. A free newsletter is a great way to get the contact information of your site visitors and present them with information about your products and services on a routine basis. This in turn leads to more sales. You can easily start a newsletter for free through a number of online list services, such as Yahoo Groups. Once you set up the newsletter, you should be able to copy and paste a code that will set up a sign up box on your web page. This way people can sign up for your newsletter right on your site without leaving it.

Miami web design - Make the most of what you got

Web Design

Everyone seems to be scuttled up to stay on the top of the search engine results now days. Some succeed in their task but some fail in this area. The reason is very simple, that the higher the rank of your web design on the search engine, the more chances you have for your site to be visited. Here I am telling you some tips in designing your website that will work better for great ranking perspectives. First, you need to aim for a simple and clear navigation, keeping the internal pages within 2-3 clicks from the home page. Making use of right keywords and phrases in your website would make it easy for the visitors to remember and recognise. Do not route to splash pages, this will make your internal pages to appear in the search results. The home page should include the target keywords and links to the important pages. Avoid duplicate content, as it would give bad impression over the visitors. Every page should have unique content without any spelling or grammatical errors. The content has to be updated regularly; it will help the search engine and users both. New and updated content grabs the attention of the visitors, they find it interesting to visit the website again.

Do not use frames on your website, as it causes difficulty in navigation and also some software cannot read it. Do not represent any information in flash movie or a graphic image, as the web spiders cannot read the text embedded in graphics or flash. Add Meta tags, title tags, and various other tags to each and every page of your website design. Make use of CSS instead of HTML tags, they are more effective. You need to make sure that the URL of your site is search engine friendly. The web design having clean URL can make it easy for the crawlers to distinguish the folder names and establish real links to the keywords. The search engine optimisation is a highly effective means by which you can reach up to a prominent position of the website on the search engines like Google, yahoo and MSN. There are various other activities of SEO including article submission, link building, press releases, blog commenting, forum posting, directory submission and many more. High ranks on the search engines would lead to increased traffic on the website and thus more and more customers. By having high ranks you cannot get leads, your website has to be very attractive, functional and unique.

The truth of website design is that it is of recent origin. It was the advent of internet and its entry into people's lives that ushered in the concept called website design. Though in its nascent stages, web design is changing with changing times. It has started recently, yes; but over these years, there have been great changes and updating that web designing has observed.

Although it started as a basic html thing, site design has changed manifold. As a simple mark-up language html permitted websites to have specific headings and also links to various other sites. This allowed the user easy access to a different webpage by just clicking on these links. It was because of html that the user could visit the few websites available during the early internet days, though it is a different fact that there were not as many as today. But as html became more advanced, an in-depth knowledge of the language along with specific skills became the need of the hour. In addition to html being recognised as a computer language that was capable of doing multiple things, there was the entry of languages like cascading style sheets, or simply CSS, into the fray. These added more scope to web designing and hopefully with the knowledge of the new language CSS, web design teams will be able to allow easy website access to their users.

Earlier, with html, the website visitors had a limited involvement with the websites they visited, but the recent applications like Adobe flash and others have allowed Internet users to become more involved with sites preferred by them. As the web gets bigger, so does the number of online users, which has resulted in more availability of web designs. With things changing frequently in the web world, history is being made every day. This makes it very important that your web designer is in tune with the latest changes and is aware of how it can affect the present design. The more advanced your design is, the better your website looks and the more traffic you will get. You can also get your old design changed and update your website. So, when you are up to get a site design made, ensure that your design is meaningful for web surfers now and later as well. Being thorough will save money and help create a website easily accessible to the user.

Miami web design - Spread the word

Web Design

Web surfers are basically an impatient bunch and if a website is hard to figure out because the links are not obvious, they will click away never to return. Website navigation is one of the most crucial elements in determining the effectiveness of a website. This article discuses the basic principle of designing website navigation.

To be effective website navigation must first and foremost make sense to the average person. While there is always room for creativity, well-designed websites tend to have similar navigation layouts.

As a web designer you must always keep in mind the basic purpose of the website and the intended audience when designing navigational elements. Most websites exist to either inform the visitor about a product or service or to actually sell the product or service. Therefore there are some basic guidelines to follow:

Make sure all navigational elements are clearly links by using standard conventions for links such as buttons, menus, underlining the text or changing color on mouse. Resist the temptation to use clever or ambiguous names for links.

When using non-conventional links, explicitly tell the visitor that this is a link. For example, suppose you design a web page where you want to use a map showing several different cities and want to let the user click on the city name to pull up information about that city. Just make sure you tell the user to click on the city name to get more information about that city.

Remember the “Three Click Rule” that most professional web designers use. Studies have shown that most users will not click more than three links to get to the information they want. So every page on your website should be reachable within three clicks.

I do not recommend using a flash movie or other type of splash page on your website. Keep the web page design simple yet attractive. But if you do decide to use one, make certain you use the META REFRESH tag to take the visitor automatically to your home page after a few seconds and provide a clickable, clearly marked button or link so the visitor can skip the entry page and go directly to your home page otherwise a large percentage of visitors will just click away never to return. Remember most visitors are looking for information not entertainment.

Navigation Element Locations

Top Menus – a top of the page menu bar is usually located directly below the page header graphic that contains the site logo. These menu items may be single links, drop down menus, or expanding menus. Each menu item can be represented by a graphic or just text. In ether case a hyperlink is associated with each item that the visitor can click on to get to the information described.

Left Side Navigation – left side navigation is typically implemented as either a column or text area on the left top portion of the webpage. Like the top menu, each item can be a single link or an expanding menu.

Right Side Navigation – right side navigation is not used that often, but when used, it is implemented as a column or text area on the top right side of the webpage. Most designers use this area for advertisements rather than site navigation.

Bottom Menus – bottom menus can be either a menu bar or footer. Menu bars use either graphics or text links while footers almost exclusively use text links.

Important Navigation Elements

Internal Page Links – Every page on the website should be within two or three clicks from the home page. Important pages should be ONE click away. The type of website will determine which links are more prominently displayed.

Login Boxes – login boxes should be prominently displayed. Common locations are top left, top right or inside the page header.

Shopping Carts – if you use a shopping cart to sell your products, you should prominently display a view cart button on each page. The most commonly used location is the top right side just below or as part of the header.

Order Buttons – if you use individual order buttons they should be large and visible. The fewer clicks it takes to get to your order page, the more orders you will get.

Breadcrumbs – breadcrumbs are both links and a graphical representation of where you are in the site. Breadcrumbs are usually located at the top left of the page just under the header. Each word is a link back to the previous page. They are in the form

We all want to have the most attractive website that leaves a visitor wide-eyed and completely dazzled. Usually an extremely attractive website design involves lots of graphical elements, increasing the overall page size which causes the page to download slowly to the browser. This article will provide some useful tips on how to keep your website design attractive but still downloads quickly.

As the average internet bandwidth rate per computer is raising, more and more webmasters allow themselves to develop complex websites laden with heavy graphic elements. In extreme cases you can find websites that take as much as a few minutes to load their content in your browser. Of course the user will never wait that long for a website to load, and will move on to the next website in his search results.

So why are webmasters still developing slow loading bloated websies? Primarily due to a lack of knowledge of simple graphic optimization techniques that will allow them to maintain an attractive website while keeping the page size smaller.

How many of you are aware of the fact that a box with rounded corners can be achieved using CSS code only, without the need for any graphic image. Well it is possible! Before those of you familiar with CSS say that it cannot be done for every type of browser and a relatively high level of programming is required, I say that dealing with the most common mistakes web designers make regarding optimization can have simple solutions.

Never limit the web designer by placing any restrictions that impact the final outcome. You might make the claim that what a web designer can do with graphic software is impossible to implement by code. I disagree. When the design is finished and you are ready to slice it into small images to be used in the html code, your creativity is been tested. Everything you do at this stage will affect the total page size. If your design contains rounded shapes that overlap each other or areas with color gradients, then you must slice it carefully so the outcome is a small file size.

Let’s look at what efficient slicing means:

1. Do not make large slices that contain lots of different colors. Use a small number of slices where each slice contains a limited number of colors.
2. Do not make a large slice that contains the same graphic structure. Slice a small portion of it and duplicate it in your code. This is a very common mistake that webmasters/programmers make when dealing with gradient color background.
3. Do not use JPEG file format all the time. In some cases a GIF format will be much smaller in size. A rule of thumb – a slice with high number of colors will be smaller in size using the JPEG format rather than the GIF format, and the opposite is also true. Check each option separately. Every 1KB that you reduce from the image file size will eventually add up to a significant reduction in page size.
4. If you have text on a solid color background, do not slice it at all. Use code to create the background instead. Remember that you can define both the font style and background color of the area using CSS.

Miami web design - Business Services Consulting

Miami Web Design

Not all websites are created equal. Good web design is not difficult but there are a few things you should avoid if you want to create attractive and user-friendly websites. The 10 most common mistakes inexperienced web designers make are:

1. Technology for technology's sake

It's very nice to play with new toys, but your website is not a suitable playing field. Visitors to your website are interested in content, not whether you have Brand X Version N of flashy stuff on your website. Keep things simple. Use tried and trusted technology, not web tools that require the user to download special add-ons just to view your website. They won't.

2. Using frames for page layout

Frames are a cop-out. They are easy for the designer, that's why they are used so often. But they have a stack of disadvantages from the user's point of view - and it is the user that we need to cherish, not the designer. The biggest problem is that the back button becomes unpredictable. You can't bookmark the current page and come back to it - you will be returned to another version of the frameset. It's also difficult for the user to know when to scroll, because different bits of the page have their own scroll bars.

3. Scrolling, blinking and animations

Moving images are distracting. Don't use them. Visitors want to be able to read and digest what you are saying on your website. They don't want the text to be bouncing around or flashing on and off before their eyes.

4. Colour clashes

Yes there are 256 different colours you can use for text and background, but that doesn't mean you have to use all of them. Nor does it mean that you should use colour combinations that give your visitors eye-strain. Choose colour combinations that provide a good contrast - dark on light is easier to read than light on dark.

5. Where am I?

All pages must have a clear indication of which website they belong to, either in the browser window or on the web page itself. This is to help users who come to pages directly without coming in via the home page. For the same reason, every page should have a link to the home page as well as some indication of where they fit within the structure of your website.

6. Long scrolling pages

It's best to avoid pages that have several screenfuls of content. Users will only scroll if they believe that there is something useful further down the page. If you really can't split the page up, then at least provide content and navigation options on the top part of the page.

7. Lack of signposts

Your users won't know their way around your site like you do. Provide a clear idea of structure and place. Use a menu bar or column in the same place on every page. If you have more than two levels of page hierarchy, provide a site map and search function as well.

8. Non-standard link colours

It has become conventional for links to pages that have not been visited by the user to be blue, and links to previously seen pages to be purple. Don't invent your own colour codes, you will only confuse visitors to your site.

9. Long download times

In our increasingly "time poor" society, people are getting more and more impatient, and when websites take too long to load, they will go somewhere else and probably won't come back to you. So do everything you can to reduce download times. When designing your website, consider reducing the number of images on each page, and definitely reduce the size of the image files.

10. Outdated information

Nothing is worse than a website that advertises an event that has already passed its date, or a product that has already sold out. Have a plan to review and modify your site on a regular basis. When designing your website, identify pages that are date sensitive and remove or amend them as soon as that date has been reached.

Web Design

Photo Optimization is necessary to allow a web page to load in the shortest amount of time possible. Fast loading time require small files. This article discusses the methods used for photo optimization.

In an ideal world, a web designer could use the highest quality photos and have the webpage download lightening fast. Fast loading requires small file sizes for pictures. Unfortunately, there is a trade off between picture quality and file size.

Web surfers are a notoriously impatient bunch. If a website takes too long to load, they will just click away and never come back.

Computer monitors can only display images at 72dpi (dots per inch). So the first step in photo optimization is to reduce the resolution to 72 dpi. Large picture can be sliced up into smaller ones and the put back together on the web page. Each piece will be a very small file and together will load in a fraction of the time a single image file would load.

Most graphic files contain information about the color palette of the image. This information is usually unnecessary for displaying on the web. Many graphic programs included the ability to “Save for the web”. This option discards all of the unnecessary information in the file without any loss of picture quality.

Another method that appears to speed up load time is to use either the GIF or PNG interlaced or the JPEG progressive property. Both of these properties allow the picture to load gradually as first a blurry image that becomes sharper and clearer. In reality the picture actually loads a fraction of a second slower than the regular formats do but it appears to load faster the site visitor.

Width and Height IMG Attributes

The HTML tag tells the web browser to create a specific sized box to hold the graphic. That way the browser can continue loading the rest of the web page while the graphic file is downloading. If you don’t put the width and height attributes, the web browser must pause until the images is downloaded before it can load the rest of the page.

How Many Images should you use?

Some web designers use images for everything. While it may look good, it will definitely slow down the speed of the page loading. Page loading speed in the sum of the HTML file plus the size of all of the embedded files. Images constitute more than 50% of the download time.

Using fewer images will speed download time and just may keep a visitor from bailing through impatience.

Photo Quality

Photo quality is determined by the clarity, color purity and detail of a photo. Use a graphic editor to remove noise and other unwanted features. Most editors allow you to correct red-eye and sharpen edges to improve clarity.

Professional editors like Fireworks or Photoshop will let you change the background, adjust the color levels and do almost anything else you want to do to the photo.

You can also use a thumbnail on the webpage that links to a larger and higher resolution version of the image so that people who want to can view it.

Miami web design Functional Web Presence

Web Design

Colors not only affect life but also the usability of the websites. This is the reason why they play a crucial role in the success of any web design. There is wide choice of colors for the web designers but some have to be used and some have to be avoided. This decision depends on the following factors.

Visitor's Attention:

In most of the web pages the designer mentions the call to action but also needs to draw the visitor's attention towards it. To make the visitor focus his attention on the things you want him/her to focus on, you need to use some street smart tricks. The pastels should be used to color the content while the rich colors should be used for the things that you want in limelight. Some designers tend to use even contrast for drawing the visitor's attention.

Effect on Emotions:

It is said that the eyes are the windows of the brain. Not only human beings but also the animals, birds and insects are affected by the color of different things around them. In case of usability of a website the designer needs to take into consideration the effect of the color on the mind of the visitors. There are bright colors like purple and soothing colors like blue. Most of the visitors relate red to aggressiveness and danger. There bright colors usually stand out and grab the attention of the visitor even if they are used in the corners of the web page. Studies have shown that the color influences the buying behavior of the visitor.

Effect of combination:

When the color scheme is considered in a web design, the designer would like to use a combination of two or more colors. When this is the case the colors need to complement each other and be in harmony. There are some combinations that are soothing for the eyes while there are other color combinations that can put off the mind of the visitor.

Conveying message effectively:

Most of the visitors have been habituated to reading black text on a white background. This nature has been attributed to the fact that most of the printed matter we have been reading since childhood has been in black text on white pages. Most of the designers have to stick to lighter background and darker print so that the content becomes legible for the visitor.

Limitation:

Everything is good in limits but what is this limit? When only 2 colors are used the website would seem to hail from the age of black and white movies. This kind of website would neither look very lively nor attractive. On the contrary if more than 5 colors are used the website would look garish and distractions are likely to increase. It is recommended that the designer uses 3 to 5 colors.

The internet sector is growing every day, as more people are looking to take advantage of its power. With the internet, you are able to reach out to more people than ever before, beating practically any other method that is available. This is why more and more people are creating their own websites.

There are all sorts of reasons for creating your own website; it could be to do with retail such as selling a product, offering a service or advertising a shop. On the other hand, you may wish to purely offer your thoughts and opinions on life and become a blogger. When coming to design your own website, it is important to keep in mind the specific purpose of the site.

However, there are aspects and features that will apply to every website:

• Navigation - One of the most important features of a website is the ease of navigation. People must be able to wander through your website without difficulty and to be able to find exactly what they're looking for. If it becomes tricky finding something, they may choose to stop visiting your site. A search bar can be particularly helpful for navigation.

• Appearance - Another important aspect to a website is its appearance. It is always nice for visitors, if the site is aesthetically pleasing. This can vary from the colour combination that you have decided to go for, to images dotted around various webpages, so people are not overloaded with just text.

• Interaction - Depending on your website, it is always good to engage your visitors. For example, this can be done through comments sections, where visitors are able to offer their views on your posts or products. This also allows you to receive some feedback on the website and gain ideas on how to improve it. Another idea is through setting up various polls, where you offer a question and a few answers to pick from. Through interaction, it is possible to create a bond with your visitor and hopefully this will encourage them to return regularly.

• Content - One of the most important aspects of a website is the amount of quality content that is on there. Like with any website, the content has to be interesting and is the feature which will keep people coming to the site on a regular basis. In addition, there should be a balance so the site does not include too little or too much information.

When designing your own website, it is vital that you keep these four features in the back of your mind at all times. In addition, you may wish to look at your competitors for ideas and examples. With this basis to work from, your website stands a good chance of being successful.
